To plan your multi-day camping and sea kayaking trip to Admiralty Island and the Pack Creek Bear Sanctuary, follow these steps:

PLAN TO START IN JUNEAU, ALASKA

The Pack Creek area is accessed by floatplane from Juneau, which can be reached by Alaska Airlines, the only commercial airlines to service Juneau, with several flights a day from Seattle or Anchorage.

Juneau can also be reached by ferry using the Alaska Marine Highway with weekly sailings from Bellingham, Prince Rupert, or other ports along the Inside Passage.

For information on hotels, bed and breakfasts, restaurants and other activities in Juneau, check out the comprehensive Visitors Guide available free through the Juneau Convention and Visitors Bureau.   Our favorite lodging in Juneau is the Driftwood Lodge, located next to downtown, close to museums, restaurants, shops and trails, with low rates and free airport shuttle.

Our top recommendation is for at least a 3-day/2-night trip to the Pack Creek Zoological Area.  This way you can visit Pack Creek itself on two days, and also paddle to Windfall Harbor, another nearby watershed that is part of the sanctuary but less visited and more wild than Pack Creek.  Both are spectacular for paddling and hiking the shore.

If you have more time available, we heartily recommend longer trips of 4-5 days, for exploring the Kootznoowoo Wilderness and its myriad islands.  With a week or more you could also paddle to Mole Harbor and have an amazing wilderness trip, with the whole area likely totally to yourselves.

DECIDE THE LEVEL OF SERVICE YOU WANT

Go to the Rates page for rates on the different degrees of service we offer.  At the most basic level, we help plan your trip and then rent you kayaks and accessories on Windfall Island and arrange your floatplane transportation.  We can also rent you tents, sleeping bags, cook stove, and cook kit. For full service, we can buy and pack your food, and also provide a guide to show you the area and do the cooking!

STAY IN TOUCH!

All other details will be arranged by email and phone calls.  We want you to have a trip of a lifetime!
